Hospitality is often thought of as providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere, but it can mean so much more than that. At its heart, hospitality is all about making others feel comfortable and valued. When done right, hospitality has the power to make everyone feel like they belong. This is something Hospitality Director Cathy McDaniel has always believed. McDaniel founded “In Him” Greeting Cards, a company specializing in unique, handmade cards with a Christian message. The cards are designed to be both meaningful and uplifting, and each one features a QR code that links to an audio recording of McDaniel speaking a prayer for blessings.
The company has been successful thanks to McDaniel’s passion for giving Hospitality a new greeting, one that is based on her Christian faith. In addition to her work with “In Him” Greeting Cards, McDaniel is also an active member of her church and community, where she provides support and encouragement to others. Her work is a testimony to her strong belief that God’s love can change lives and that everyone deserves a chance to experience His blessings. Thanks to her dedication and hard work, Cathy McDaniel is making a difference in the world, one card at a time.
BIZBoost is honored to highlight McDaniel.
Tell me a little about yourself and your background that got you where you are today.
I have served as Hospitality Director for my church for many years and always look for new ideas to connect and engage with those who need an encouraging message from those who care.
“In Him” Greeting Cards is a unique idea and platform. What inspired it, and why was it important to create to connect with those needing inspiration?
Social isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic drastically affected everyone’s lifestyle.
I serve as the Hospitality Director at New Life Praise Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia. During that challenging period, I caught myself needing more time to volunteer, call on the sick, deliver food and flowers, make phone calls, etc. A time when many needed, at a minimum, a prayer, a word of encouragement, a “hello, I’m thinking about you.” Serving and helping others is my passion.
The “In Him” Greeting Cards platform was designed to serve and allowed me to connect with others quickly. Each handmade card presents a personal heartfelt note, scriptures of God’s promises, and an MP3 voice-over QR Code link to listen to a spoken message of “Prayers for Blessings,” enhanced by beautiful piano music authored by Danny Wright. A message that can be read and listened to over and over.
God has given us His great and precious promises to give us hope, joy, peace, wisdom, and strength for whatever we are facing in our day! God makes more than 7,400 promises to humankind referenced in the Bible. I want to share some of them with you. Join me: www.InHimGreetingCards.com.
You narrate the “Cards.” What was that first experience like for you? Compared to your first one, what do you feel you have learned that has been the catalyst to refining the experience for others?
I met a lady at one of my training classes several years back. It was beautiful and placed a big smile and warm feeling of “care.” It was explained that it was one of a kind and handmade. It was given to me to take home. I saved it, and every time I looked at it, the moment was pleasant.
You have been in real estate for over 25 years. What made you choose that profession?
I love people and helping others. Homeownership was perfect for my passion.
When you look back at the span of years in real estate, what would you say is the most valuable advice you know now that you wish you had known then? Why?
We need to invest a lot of time, reputation and referral business. You must be self-motivating and enjoy “no two days are the same.” Back then, there was not much training on how to connect and find clients to work with and little help from the broker. Another reason that I offer real estate classes … mostly free.
What promoted the development of programs for homeownership and those wanting a career in real estate? At the end of the day, helping someone achieve the “American Dream” of homeownership, a place to call home, make memories, raise children, be involved in the community, and contribute to an asset investment is a great self-accomplishment. A win-win for many reasons.
You have a lot going on. How do you balance, and what does self-care look like for you?
