Interview Questions
1. Dr Anissa, we are kicking it off with your passionate journey.
What sparked your passion for championing the success of women in business, and how do you think your work is making a tangible impact?
The first inclination that I would work with women in business came to me during my junior year of college. Because of this, I decided to pursue business as my major, and I remained open to varied experiences within the business sector. This was the spark. The spark was fed over the years as I gained experience as a trainer and mentor while employed. Years later, while serving in a leadership role within a Direct Sales Company, I found that my vision had become a reality as I served as a business coach and my organization was composed of women. This role required that I not only recruit and mentor the salesforce but I become actively engaged in creating opportunities for them to learn and grow.
2. Your book “7 Keys to Success” offers a blueprint for success. Can you share a personal story of how these principles helped you?

After making the decision to resign from my position with the federal government, I needed clarification about my next steps. It was during this soul-searching that the premise for this book was given to me. The principles outlined within this book were first for me and then a message for the community that I was to educate, encourage, and empower.
The principles or keys outlined in this book are those I had to incorporate and now communicate to others. When I found myself falling short, losing focus, and missing goals and timelines, the principles outlined in this book served as the roadmap I needed to get back into alignment.
3. Moving ahead, Dr Anissa, your book “Becoming the Shero” highlights the transformative stories of soldiers.
What inspired you to create this anthology? How do you think the stories of transformation in this anthology can inspire others to overcome their own challenges?
The ‘Becoming the Shero series (all three books) was written to inspire and encourage women from all walks of life. The first project was written by a group of phenomenal female entrepreneurs. The second book includes women of the armed forces, active and retired. The third serves as a salute to motherhood. Individually, they offer beautiful examples of transparency and authenticity. Each co-author did an outstanding job of sharing their stories. Collectively, they are a movement.
4. Your online course, Foundation for Success, aims to educate, encourage, and empower home-based business owners.
Would you share the most common mistakes home-based entrepreneurs make and how they can avoid them? Also, to learn more, where would an enthusiast enrol?
Many female entrepreneurs, including authors, underestimate their potential and the value of their voice. In addition, they find it challenging to shift their life’s processes to make room for building the business, expanding the brand, or writing the book. For this reason, my course begins with mindset and moves immediately to tips on how to manage our most valuable resource: time. This self-guided online course offers the fundamentals from which one can build success.

5. Dr. Anissa, one of your best-selling books, “The Titus 2 Principle: Reach Teach Lead”, emphasizes the importance of Mentorship and leadership.
Can you share a personal experience of how Mentorship has shaped your life or business? And what’s the most crucial takeaway for readers?
This book is another literary project born during my aforementioned soul-searching season. It was during this time that I realized that Mentorship is a crucial component to getting better, stronger and more proficient in their course of life and business. I experienced this during my years within Direct Sales, and especially since being introduced to the literary community as an author and publisher. Submitting to the leadership of my publishing mentors has resulted in doors opening that I could have never imagined. Being connected to them, challenged by them, and guided by them resulted in my becoming an international best-seller author and speaker.
John Maxwell is quoted as saying, “One of the greatest values of mentors is the ability to see ahead what others cannot see and to help them navigate a course to their destination.” This message is the common thread throughout each story in this book.
6. Oh, you’re an astounding “multifaceted lady!”
How do you balance your roles as a speaker, author, coach, and entrepreneur, and what advice would you give to others wearing multiple hats?
While I may wear many hats, the roles in which I serve align with my purpose to champion the success of female leaders and entrepreneurs. I will make it work as long as the task or assignment does not conflict with my commitment to my faith and family first (as these have first priority). And, as a coach, that’s the advice I always extend.
One must decide what’s nonnegotiable. They must set their life’s priorities and remain true to them and one’s personal assignments without regard to what others may say or think. If the role, activity or assignment does not feed what you have identified as a priority or nonnegotiable, one should exercise their freedom to say “no thank you”.
7. Lastly, are there any upcoming projects or initiatives you’re excited about, and how can our audience support you?
This year, I officially launched my brand, Anissa Short Consulting, operating as The Success Strategist and Accountability Coach. This platform is a continuation of what I have been doing for years; however, I am now open to working with women within varied industries and walks of life. If one wants to support me, I am open to speaking opportunities and serving as an accountability coach to those looking for a true partnership. Whether they are looking for more in life or business or looking to write their signature book, I am here to serve.
